Welcome to the 43rd Annual Burlington Golden Horseshoe AAA Hockey Tournament. TheShoe is one of the preeminent International tournaments around, showcasing competitive and talented AAA teams from Canada, the USA, and Europe running December 27-30. Tournament Permit # 23926
The Golden Horseshoe tournament is hosted in Burlington Ontario, less than an hour from Toronto and Buffalo, between Oakville and Hamilton on the shores of Lake Ontario. The city has all the amenities and more that a city can offer including entertainment, restaurants and accommodations to fit all budgets. To date the Shoe is well ahead of the pace and looks to set a new attendance record in 2010. Helping to set a new attendance record is the addition of a third pad of ice at the Appleby Ice Centre which will be full NHL size. In addition to this new pad Nelson Arena will fit outfit with new dressing rooms to enhance one of the most unique facilities in Burlington.

Shoe Registration Update

Registration is moving at a fast pace for this years Burlington Golden Horseshoe AAA Hockey Tournament. Currently all divisions are accepting additional teams. As with previous years all divisions will be configured to support seeding as well as maximize the opportunity to compete against teams that they would normally not see during the course of the regular hockey season. If your team is planning to register we encourage you to sign up as early as possible as your first step towards final confirmation.
Youthfest Burlington Celebration

On Thursday June 3rd the Youthfest Burlington organization held its Annual Celebration Dinner to mark the achievements of its local youth in the past year. Highlighting the evenings event was special guest and keynote speaker Doug MacLean. Doug is a former NHL head coach where he took the Florida Panther to the Stanley Cup Finals in the ’95-’96 season. As well he spent many years with the Columbus Blue Jackets in a variety of responsiblities including GM. Most currently Doug has been a hockey analyst with both Sportsnet and TheFan 590.
Doug is pictured here with “Shoe” Director Paul Fratesi accepting a donation to Youthfest on behalf of the over 200 volunteers that annually helps to make the Burlington Golden Horseshoe AAA Hockey Tournament one of the best hockey tournaments in all of North America.

Shoe Sets Attendance Record in 2009

The Burlington Golden Horseshoe AAA Hockey Tournament set a team attendance record with a total of 106 AAA caliber participating teams in 6 divisions. In addition to this record the Shoe hosted for the first time a team from Russia that drew huge interest both in the rink and in the media. One of the main factors for the 76% growth in the tournament over the past two years has been execution. Here are a few facts from the 2009 edition.
* Final schedule released 27 days prior to first day of play * Website draws 30,000 visits over 4 days of event * 106 teams in 6 divisions played a total of 272 games (record number) * Games start time accuracy 99.7% * 6 Arenas used with 8 km's (5 miles) max distance separation * Games results and standings posted on website within 30 minutes of each game completion * Full player stats updated with each game result * Opening night International Match-ups & Tyke skills draws over 1,000 * Event contributions shared by 6 local charities * Full colour 60 page program for all participants

Let me also tell you again what a great time our team had and how well organized your tournament was. Great job by all the people who put in the time and hard work.
